Taunt.

I feel like the warning message on the boppy nursing pillow is taunting me. Like, HA HA! No sleep for YOU!
Today when I got up and switched on my mobile phone, it beeped and buzzed at me.
I opened up the phone to see what all the racket was about, and was greeted with a reminder message that read:
“March 27th: Have Baby”
I can only assume Mark input this information at some point in the past, lest I forget this important task when the time arrived.
Fortunately, this is one task that I can strike off my To Do list.
I’m working on a baby book for Alexander.
Want to help out? The goal here is to capture a snap shot of life as it is in March of 2007. Answers on on a postcard in the comments, please.
Guess what other things were going on in the world when I was born.
Our leader was: President George W. Bush (USA), Prime Minister John Howard (Australia) and Prime Minister Tony Blair (UK)
Other leaders around the world were: President Jacques Chirac (France), Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong (Singapore), Prime Minister Shinzo Abe (Japan)
I arbitrarily picked these off the top of my head….additions gratefully accepted. Don’t go getting all offended because I missed your country’s leader off, mmK?
The clothes in style were:
I’m having trouble with this one. I’ve been wearing maternity clothes for the past 6 months!
Ummmm, for girls: ballet flat shoes, wedge heel peep toe shoes, skinny leg trousers, long t-shirts/tunics, really big handbags. For guys: ??? how to describe? Mark wears jeans and t-shirts most of the time. Isn’t that what guys wear?
Some hit songs were:
According to American Top 40, the top 10 songs on Alexander’s birthday were:
1 Justin Timberlake – What Goes Around
2 Nelly Furtado – Say It Right
3 Daughtry – It’s Not Over
4 Beyonce – Irreplaceable
5 Paula Deanda – Walk Away (Remember Me)
6 Rihanna – Break It Off
7 Gwen Stefani – The Sweet Escape
8 Ludacris – Runaway Love
9 Fergie – Glamorous (Featuring Ludacris)
10 AKON – I Wanna Love You ft. Snoop Dogg
I do not think I have heard of half of these songs. I can’t decide whether this is good or bad.
Some famous movie stars were:
Jodie Foster, Nicole Kidman, Renee Zellweger, Jennifer Aniston, Halle Berry, Scarlett Johansson, Cameron Diaz, Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Lopez, Reese Witherspoon
Tom Cruise, Denzel Washington, Johnny Depp, Tom Hanks, Adam Sandler , Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Will Smith, Keifer Sutherland, Jim Carey
I arbitrarily picked this “top 10″ of actors and actresses from this Forbes article – I don’t know that I would personally consider these to be the greatest actors and actresses of our time, but what do I know about acting?
Some famous athletes were:
I’ll ask Mark for input on this one. I’m sure he’ll have a long list to contribute. Me, not so much. I like sport and all, but my idea of ‘famous athletes’ are local Austin athletes like Desiree Ficker and Gilbert Tuhabonye, or my superstar sisters, or my brother-in-law Marcus.
Alexander is 3 days old in this video. It was taken the afternoon after we got home from the hospital, the first time Alexander and I were left alone in the house together. I was fairly terrified. But we managed OK, my little man and me.
David Brent just added me as a friend on Twitter.
I feel mildly disturbed.
Alexander arrived on Saturday, March 17th at 6.14pm.
We brought him home on Monday, March 19th.
We are all doing well – or as well as can be expected
. We’re muddling through and figuring things out as best we can hour by hour. Everything is new, and I’d be lying if I said it was all easy. But it is all completely wonderful and amazing and breath taking.
We are truly blessed.
Thanks so much for all the lovely messages, congratulations and prayers. Much appreciated.
Photos are up on Flickr. See: The Arrival of Alexander.

Bump Watch, week 38 – bare belly version

The previous pic didn’t do the bump’s size justice. Bare belly ahoy!

Week 38. I’m hoping this is the final bump watch update. C’mon baby G.
Overall, I’ve had a pretty smooth pregnancy so far, and for that I’m very thankful. But as the due date looms closer, my discomfort level seems to be shooting exponentially higher each day. I’m not sleeping well. I’m tired. I’m uncomfortable when I lie down. I’m uncomfortable when I sit at a desk. I’m uncomfortable when I lounge on the sofa. Walking around helps some, but I get sore ankles or a sore back after a while. Floating in the bath feels good, but there’s only so much time I can stand to spend submerged, waterlogged and pruny. Massage feels good – while it lasts….which isn’t nearly long enough.
My friend Eric F. sent me a lovely email today: “Hang in there – this is the worst bit, but it is all worth it, trust me!”
C’mon baby G! Please come out soon! There’s much more room on the outside!
